07/31/2003 Archived Entry: "Back from Seattle..."

So, my wife and I spent about 6 days in Seattle... and it was in the 80s-90s everyday. Crazy hot weather for the Pacific Northwest. I'm from Oregon, and it usually doesn't stay that hot for that long.

We did pretty much all the touristy things in Seattle, and then some. Dinner on the Space Needle, Harbor Cruises, checked out the Pike Street Market and the Piers, Red Hook Brewery tour (the coolest), tour of Boeing, the Air Museum, the list goes on.

Of course, I come back and find out a job I interviewed for the day before my wedding went to someone else... so the job search continues. I'm really having bad luck in that department. Time to start looking outside of Oregon. I'm convinced there are no jobs here unless you like to pump gas or bag groceries, and even those are competetive.

So, time to find work, again. In the meantime, I'm excited about working on the Indy project again. One thing I did in Seattle was go on the Underground tour. Seattle had a huge fire in the late 1800's which burned 30 odd blocks. When the city was rebuilt, they built up the roads, but not the sidewalks. The result was buildings that had store fronts anywhere from 10-30 feet underground. Later, sidewalks were built at road level, but the storefronts stayed below ground for some time. Those underground sidewalks still exist and you can tour them... I took lots of cool pictures, which will inspire some mapping I think :)

I think "the burned out road" is a cool scenario for RtCW/ET!
